Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation ( MMPC ) formally signs a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the academe for a joint study on electric vehicles (EV) in the country. MMPC seeks to promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles such as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle) and i-MiEV.
Spearheading for the academe in this study is De La Salle University (DLSU). Present during the MOA signing were DLSU Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Dr. Raymond Girard Tan; DLSU Director for Engineering and Sustainable Development Research, Dr. Jose Bienvenido Biona; and Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) President and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri. Also there to witness the signing ceremony were Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo, Assistant Secretary Rafaelita Aldaba and other members of the academe.
In his brief message, MMPC President and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri shared, “This partnership showcases the importance of the academe’s role in promoting electric vehicles. We are committed to aid DLSU in conducting economic, environmental and technical research that will help formulate a proposed program for the strategic adoption of electric vehicles in the Philippines.”
This joint study was initiated to support and undertake a project which has been identified in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MMPC and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which aims to reduce carbon footprints in the environment. MMPC also extends its collaboration with DLSU as the lead academic institution to assist the government in the development of policies and programs that will mobilize public awareness, acceptance, and demand for eco-friendly vehicles such as EVs and PHEVs.
Other members from the academe included Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), Mapua University, Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) and the University of the Philippines (UP).
