Steven van Wijk
Auto And Tech | TAIPEI, July 23, 2025 — Air France KLM has appointed Steven van Wijk as its new General Manager for Greater China, effective August 1, 2025. Based in Beijing, van Wijk will lead operations across four major hubs: Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei, as the group eyes deeper engagement in one of its most strategic international markets.
What’s New?
Van Wijk’s arrival marks a strategic refresh in leadership as the aviation group navigates a competitive and rapidly evolving air travel market in Asia. With over 15 years in the airline industry, van Wijk brings a rich blend of network strategy, commercial insight, and cross-regional experience to the table. He most recently served as Commercial Director for the UK and Ireland, where he played a pivotal role in post-pandemic recovery and route optimization.
His global experience includes stints managing commercial operations across East Africa, South America, and Europe, along with a foundational background in financial econometrics from the University of Amsterdam. That analytical edge is expected to serve him well in the data-driven and high-growth landscape of Chinese aviation.
Charting a Confident Course in Greater China
“China is not just another market—it’s a core part of our global network,” van Wijk said. “I’m excited to work with our dedicated teams in Greater China to expand our reach, enhance the travel experience, and respond to evolving customer expectations with agility and excellence.”
He highlighted the growing demand for flexibility, localized service, and sustainability among Chinese travelers—areas he intends to prioritize as part of Air France KLM’s long-term roadmap in the region. Van Wijk also plans to leverage his expertise in network optimization to fine-tune routes and schedules in line with market shifts and recovery trends.
Off the tarmac, van Wijk is an avid athlete who enjoys hockey, running, and skiing. He travels extensively with his family, reflecting a personal passion for cultural discovery—something that mirrors the spirit of his new assignment in Asia.
