Auto and Tech | Woven Alpha, Isuzu, and Hino Start Using Automated Mapping Platforms to Promote Safer Automated Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems | (via JCN Newswire) – Toyota City, Japan, June 8, 2021 – Woven Alpha, Inc., a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, Woven Planet Holdings, Inc., Isuzu Motors Limited, and Hino Motors, Ltd., announced today that they have reached an agreement to continue talks to use Woven Alpha’s Automated Mapping Platform (AMP).
AMP is a networked crowdsourced software platform that enables the production, development, and sharing of high definition (HD) maps, which are a critical enabler for smart and safe automated mobility. AMP uses vehicle fleet data and powerful satellite imagery technology to create high-precision data-driven maps. The AMP HD map incorporates numerous layers of data-rich information on road items such as lanes, road signs, traffic lights, and other items, as well as road curves and topography, to create an accurate picture of the road that is constantly updated. The Woven Alpha team wants to make AMP the world’s most complete road and lane network HD map platform, allowing automated driving vehicles to have high-precision localization capability.
Isuzu and Hino will investigate the potential use of AMP on the domain of small commercial-purpose trucks with the goal of accomplishing smarter and safer logistics through automated driving and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) using HD maps. The project, which Toyota announced alongside Isuzu and Hino, aims to contribute to the spread of safer automated driving and ADAS through Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation, which aims to accelerate CASE replies.
