Honda eGX electrified power unit for small-sized work equipment (Left: Integrated type/ Right: Separated type)
Auto and Tech | Honda will begin supplying the eGX (Electrified Power Unit) for commercial-grade work equipment in the near future | (JCN Newswire) – TOKYO, May 31, 2021 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. will begin shipping its eGX electrified DC power unit to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers for use in small-scale work equipment. Honda will begin selling the eGX in Japan next month (June 2021), before spreading to other nations such as Europe and the United States. Honda intends to display the eGX at the World of Concrete Show 2021, which will take place in the United States from June 8 to 10. (Las Vegas).
The eGX electrified power unit inherits Honda’s GX Series general-purpose engines’ high reliability and great installation compatibility, which have been accepted by a large number of work equipment OEMs as a power source for a variety of commercial-grade work equipment. Furthermore, Honda made it possible to install eGX on a wider range of work equipment by providing two versions of eGX, integrated and separate, as well as ensuring high compatibility with Honda GX Series engines. The size of the engine-flange mounting holes and shaft specifications were made identical to those of Honda GX series engines to achieve this (1).
The eGX accommodates the needs of work equipment use in places where adequate ventilation is difficult to secure and in use environments where users want to avoid equipment noise as much as possible, such as at night and in residential areas, by utilizing the characteristics of the electrified power unit. Furthermore, the eGX enhances operability and ease of maintenance, reducing the workload of the user. The eGX also helps consumers achieve their zero-emission targets.

The eGX’s main characteristics
The eGX is equipped with a high-efficiency, high-power three-phase brushless DC motor (in class with a maximum output of 2.0kW), which takes advantage of Honda’s exceptional winding technology accumulated over many years of developing generators.
– Vibration and dust resistance are achieved via a high-rigidity motor with a sealed structure, which can tolerate construction machinery use.
High compatibility with Honda GX Series engines – The size of the engine-flange mounting holes and shaft dimensions were made the same as those of Honda GX (R) 100/120 engines to ensure compatibility with GX Series engines.
The eGX provides clean and low-noise work in places where proper ventilation is difficult to obtain, such as inside underground tunnels, and use scenarios where keeping quiet is needed, such as during nocturnal construction work in/near residential neighborhoods.
– Simple switch operation for a quick start.
– Maintenance work is reduced. (There is no need for varied engine maintenance, part replacement, or cleaning.)
– Assisting in the attainment of zero-emissions status (of environmentally hazardous substances, namely HC, NOx and CO2).
– The use of a detachable lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged quickly.
